13.4 mile run in 2:17

You can find out a lot about yourself running 26.2 miles and even more when you run 63km.

But when injury strikes its a while new ball game.

On March 5th 2020 I ran my 11th half marathon of 2020 and I was quite fit. In April and May I was running 5 miles each day to raise funds for the hospice.

Early May I suffered a reoccurance of a back injury and had to stop running for a number of weeks.

I was very sore I could not stand straight for a week I was back in a place where my running career could be over. I felt devestated.

I got my back and hip reviewed and exercises for my back and hip flexors to do regularly together with a walking plan.

Mentally it has been very tough and I knew once I could walk, then mentally I had an obstacle I had to overcome.

There is something magical about running after a certain distance it transcends the body, then a bit further it transcends the mind, a bit further yet and what you have before you laid bare, is the soul.

Today according to my plan I had ran a number of runs from 4 to 10 miles with several 3 mile walks in between to get me to bank Holiday Monday where I would attempt a half marathon distance to see how my back and hip would stand up.

I put the plan on a vision board kept to the plan and today smashed the 13.4 mile run in 2:17.

At 3 miles I was tired at 6 I felt strong and 9 I was doing OK amazing how the body changes. At 11 miles I was doing OK and at 12 miles I was feeling it and concentrated on the last mile putting one foot in front of the other keeping my pace up best I could.

Like a lot of runners I can say, You may see me struggle but you will never see me quit.

Write your dream down into a plan and take action and don't let anyone tell you, you can’t do it.
